"Chloe...Luke…daddy is on the computer!" My 5 year old daughter and son runs over and takes the seat in front of the computer. Carlos was currently at a military base in Iraq. He had been there for 6 months and he was coming home next weekend. Once a week he called back home via video chat to talk to his twins and his wife.
"DADDY!" My son yells happily at the sight of his father on the computer monitor. Carlos smiled wide his gaze glancing back and forth between his 'mini me' son and his beautiful little girl.
"Hey buddy…Hey baby girl" He smiled at both of them. His smile couldn't have been larger.
"We miss you" His daughter whimpers holding onto her stuffed tiger.
"I miss you too baby girl. Daddy is gonna be home soon I promise." He soothes….tears are on the rim of his eyes. His heart slowly breaking at the sight of his children missing him.
"When are you coming home?" Luke pipes up.
"I'm already there" He smiles at Luke.
"No your not daddy….your not here" Chloe whimpers.
"Yes I am. Do you listen to daddy sing on the radio?" He asked. The children exchanged a glance and nod.
"See I'm always around you. What do you have around you neck Luke?" Carlos questioned. Before Carlos left, he gave his son his old dog tags.
"Your doggy tags" Luke answered.
"I'm always with you two. If you miss daddy…ask mommy to put on my show or listen to daddy and uncle Kendall, Logan, and James songs." He soothed. Making tears build up in my eyes more.
"I miss you" Chloe adds. You can just see Carlos' heart break at the sound of his daughter whimpering.
"I miss you too baby girl. And I miss my favorite little hockey player. Alright go get some sleep. You have school tomorrow" He ordered making them both nod sleepily.
"I love you daddy" Your son smiled kissing his hand and putting it to the screen as a tradition. Carlos kissed his hand and matched it with his son.
"Love you too buddy. Go get some sleep" He smiled trying not to cry. My son slipped off the chair and hugged my legs and then went off to bed.
"Nighty night daddy" His baby girl smiles kissing her hand and matching her daddy's which always seemed huge.
"Night princess" Carlos bit his lip watching his daughter leave the room. I walked over and sat at the computer already beginning to cry.
"Shhhh…please don't cry baby" Carlos cooed knowing sometimes we both ended up crying.
"I'm sorry. I just miss you" I smile through my tears whipping them away on my sweatshirt sleeve. Which just so happens to be Carlos'.
"I miss you so much. I'm never doing this again" You can hear his voice quiver a bit.
"Only one more week" I try to comfort knowing its going to be the longest week of my entire life.
"One more week until I can feel you in my arms again" He chuckles trying to brighten the mood. I smiled at his attempt.
"They miss you so much. Last night little Luke cried because he got scared and you weren't there to protect him." You retail the events from the night before.
"I hate not being there. I just want to be home for good" He mumbles starting to cry softly. Tears start to roll down my cheeks watching my husband of 3 years have a break down.
"You will be home baby…your never as far away as you seem" I utter through tears. His gaze meets mine with a warming smile that always melted my heart.
"I've been thinking about you worldwide…worldwide" He gently sings making my tears subside for the moment.
"Night baby" I kissed my fingers and press them to the computer screen.
"Night Mi Amor" He kisses his fingers and presses them to mine.
"I love you" I softly whisper so only he can hear it.
"I love you more….I'll be home soon"
